Nate and Sarah met in Philadelphia, so when Sarah asked to take photos at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)- I was excited, to say the least!
Where was your first date? What was the most memorable moment?
Our first date was at the Independence Beer Garden! I remember being so shaky the entire time but Nate was so friendly and had this huge personality. We also had a great time playing cornhole, however, to this day I blame Nate for making us lose to another couple there. How is it possible that you're TOO good at a game? All he had to do was not aim for the board. If you ask Nate, the most memorable moment was when I spilled my beer (he swears it's because I didn't like it), but in addition to that, the first kiss left a lasting impression. It was really natural for us and it felt like we'd known each other for a long time, and now four years later it's incredible to think about that single moment leading to many other adventures and memories together.
What is your favorite thing to do together?
Cooking - we love food almost as much as we love each other!
When did you know he/she was the one? (I'd love to know both sides on this one!)
Sarah - I realized it pretty quickly, but I think that the moment I knew for sure was when I got finished graduate school. Nate was so proud, and even a little emotional, he's always had my back and listened to my dreams, to see how important it was to him to see me succeed just is a reflection of the type of person and partner he is. He always wants the best for me, and for us. Nate - Well it was not a specific big "moment" for me, it was more of when I thought about if I were ever to lose Sarah, what would my life look like. It was the realization that I honestly couldn't picture my life without her at any moment, and that's how I knew.
Tell me about your proposal! When, where, how?
Our proposal happened at the ice rink in City Hall! First off, it was a surprise, I thought that the surprise was ice skating because Nate hate's ice skating but I love it. But it turned out to be a much bigger surprise! We skated for about 30 minutes and talked about the future, then Nate asked if I wanted to take a picture. While I was pulling Nate along to a spot, when I turned around there he was on one knee, and Hall and Oats' "Sara Smile" played over the intercom. It was clear that Nate had been planning this out for a while with the ice rink staff and my family because they equally surprised me popping up with a whole set up to celebrate after he asked!
When you think of your wedding day, what do you envision? what is the most important thing to you?
When we think of our wedding day, we both want the day to be a reflection of us, we aren't planning a large wedding and most of our guests are family members. While there is a lot of glitz and glamour associated with the "big day" it's important to us to find time together (whether it's 15 minutes or 5 minutes) to acknowledge what's happened and what that means. We're both two people who deeply love each other and we don't want that to get lost throughout the day.
What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone looking for love?
Nate - Don't look, let it find you. We came into this with no expectations and it turned into one of the best things we could ask for. Sarah - Love someone who is also your friend, what's worked for us is that we never stopped having fun together or being honest with each other. We're fiercely loyal and I think that stems from the friendship we have within our relationship.
