One of my favorite things about photographing weddings is seeing how every couple creates a day that feels completely their own! Winter weddings have a completely different feel than weddings during the rest of the year. With the ceremony taking place after sunset, your timeline naturally shifts indoors, making your venue an even bigger part of the experience.

That was exactly the case for Alexis and Kyle’s December wedding at Collingswood Grand Ballroom. They embraced everything that makes this historic South Jersey venue special, from its beautiful indoor portrait locations to a timeline that let them spend more of the evening celebrating with family and friends.

From the moment I walked into Alexis and Kyle’s wedding day at the Collingwood Grand Ballroom, it was filled with so much laughter and connection! Friends were helping with the final details, family members were catching up before the ceremony and there was this excitement that was contagious! 

Alexis and Kyle chose to have both their ceremony and reception at Collingswood Grand Ballroom, allowing them to stay present with the people they love most! If you’re searching for a South Jersey wedding venue, Collingswood Grand Ballroom is one that continues to stand out for couples who want both elegance and convenience! Located just outside Philadelphia in Collingswood, New Jersey, this historic venue combines historic architecture with a layout that makes wedding days feel effortless. 

Winter weddings don’t always allow for long outdoor portrait sessions, which is one of the reasons I enjoy photographing at Collingswood Grand Ballroom this time of year.

The venue offers multiple indoor locations that create completely different looks without ever stepping outside! Alexis and Kyle had one request before the wedding: they wanted to make time for portraits in the historic theater. It was pretty iconic!

The theater has a completely different atmosphere than the ballroom. The vintage seating, rich colors and historic details create a vibe that feel unlike anywhere else in the venue (or really south jersey!)

Why Alexis & Kyle Chose a First Look

One decision that made a huge difference throughout the day was choosing to do a first look before the ceremony!I know a lot of couples wonder whether a first look will take away from walking down the aisle, and every wedding is different! For Alexis and Kyle, it created something they wouldn’t have had otherwise: light.

From a photography perspective, it also allowed us to finish wedding party portraits and immediate family photos before the ceremony and before we lost the sun since it was winter! That meant plenty of daylight AND cocktail hour wasn’t spent taking formal portraits. Instead, Alexis and Kyle were able to walk into cocktail hour and immediately begin to spend time with their people!
