Cape May Wedding Photographer | Beach Engagement Session
When I say no two engagement sessions are ever the same, Noel and Justin’s session in Cape May proved that in the best way.
What was supposed to be a quiet morning at Justin’s grandmom’s beachfront home ended up being a full-on community celebration, thanks to the Escape the Cape Triathlon happening right outside their door. We hadn’t realized the race was that same morning and as I tried to get to their house, all the roads were blocked off!
As we stepped outside, runners flying by and volunteers cheering. Crossing the road meant waiting for the perfect break… and then sprinting across with cameras in hand. And honestly? It was hilarious and kind of perfect. People we’d never met started shouting “Congratulations!” to Noel and Justin as we stood at the edge of the sidewalk waiting to cross. For a couple that values family and togetherness, it felt like the whole town was in on their joy.
We started the session at Justin’s grandmother’s beachfront Cape May home, which felt like the heart of the entire morning. There’s something grounding about beginning your session somewhere that already holds memories. You can feel the difference in the photos, it’s not just a pretty backdrop. It’s personal. It matters.
Now let’s talk about Cora, their adorable pup and a major part of their proposal story. She was dressed in the sweetest custom Etsy outfit and definitely stole the show more than once. Including your dog in your engagement session isn’t just cute, it adds a whole new layer of you to the experience. Cora was so scared but eventually warmed up! For couples thinking about including their pets? This is your sign.
Because the triathlon rerouted some of our original plans (and blocked downtown Cape May), we made a last-minute pivot and headed to Cape May Winery. It was definitely and ideal detour! The summer blooms were full, the vineyard rows were quiet and the peaceful setting gave us a slower pace to wrap things up. It felt romantic and relaxed, exactly how an engagement session should feel!
Every engagement session with me starts with a personalized session questionnaire. Why? Because your story isn’t one-size-fits-all and your session shouldn’t be either. Whether you want to include your dog, start at a family home, or need suggestions for locations that feel like you, I’ll help craft a plan that’s both intentional and effortless.
And when unexpected things (like a surprise triathlon) pop up? We adjust, pivot and still create something beautiful without stress. That’s what thoughtful planning and real connection allow us to do!
