South Jersey Beach Engagement Session with Micaela, Kevin (& Clifford!)

There’s something really special about photographing people in a place that feels like home to them, and for Micaela and Kevin, North Wildwood isn’t just a vacation spot, it’s their happy place. (The place I’ve been vacationing in since I was 3, so this was meant to be.) From childhood memories to their favorite beach days, this stretch of sand holds so much for them. And now? It holds the story of a session that somehow dodged a thunderstormjust long enough for us to make some magic.

I actually went to college with Micaela, which made this session even more meaningful for me! Her family has a condo in North Wildwood, so this beach has been a part of her life for years. Getting to photograph her and Kevin (and their sweet pup, Clifford!) in a place that holds that kind of history felt like such an honor.

Chasing Light Between Storms

All day, we were keeping a close eye on the forecast. Thunderstorms were rolling through and it wasn’t looking promising. But just as our session was about to begin, we got a break in the clouds. The air was breezy, the skies were moody and North Wildwood gave us that iconic coastal wind that makes you want to exhale a little deeper.

As we neared the end of the session, the lightning started again in the distance, giving us an epic sky to close out the night. There’s something about stormy beach light that feels cinematic. Dramatic but calm, bold but still somehow intimate.

Clifford, The Star of the Show

Clifford was the perfect third wheel. He had his moment in front of the camera, and let’s just say… he delivered.
