I’m a Philadelphia wedding photographer who loves sharing thoughtful planning tips, real galleries and a few travel stories along the way. Whether you're here for wedding inspiration or just dreaming up your next adventure, I’m so glad you’re here. Let me know what you'd love to see more of!

Sarah and Nate’s engagement photos at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts felt so connected to their story from the beginning.
If you’re trying to plan engagement photos that actually reflect your relationship, we put together the 16 questions we walk through with our couples before planning. It helped us build this engagement session around Sarah and Nate since it was centered around their real life, personalities and the places that already mattered to them.
They met in Philadelphia, got engaged at City Hall, and Sarah was actually working at PAFA during this season of life, so choosing the museum for their engagement session felt really intentional.
Between the historic architecture, Center City streets and iconic skyline views, this was a dream session for couples that love the energy and all the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia.

Engagement Photos at PAFA

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is such a solid option for engagement photos in Philadelphia. The mix of art and history makes it such a good location for couples who want something classic but still connected to the city.
You can learn more about PAFA here: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)

We also made time for the *iconic* Philadelphia City Hall shot, which felt especially special for Sarah and Nate because Nate proposed at the City Hall ice rink!
Philadelphia sessions always feel so different depending on the location, which is one reason I also love photographing weddings at venues like The Stotesbury Mansion.

One of my favorite things about Sarah and Nate was how comfortable they were together. Being in such an intentional location helped them naturally settle into the session, which is always when the best photos happen! That is one of the biggest reasons I always recommend engagement sessions before the wedding day. It helps couples feel so much more comfortable in front of the camera.

For couples looking to plan a Philadelphia engagement session or Center City engagement photos, PAFA is such a good option.
From a photography perspective, it works so well because of:

If you’re dreaming of engagement photos inside Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, one important thing to know is that indoor photography sessions require advance approval directly through PAFA. Photography is generally not permitted inside the galleries during normal public hours unless the session has been coordinated with their team beforehand. Since Sarah worked here, we were easily able to gain contact and access with the museum.
Because PAFA is both a historic Philadelphia landmark and an active museum, they have guidelines in place to protect the artwork and visitor experience. At the time of writing this, flash photography, tripods and larger equipment setups are typically restricted inside the galleries, and approved sessions may require supervision from a PAFA staff member or security team during the shoot.
I highly recommend reaching out to PAFA as early as possible if you want to include the museum interiors in your engagement session plans, especially during busy wedding and tourism seasons. You can contact their team directly through visitorservices@pafa.org or by calling (215) 972-7600 to ask about availability, pricing and current photography policies.
The good news is that even without indoor access, the exterior of PAFA still offers beautiful architecture in Philadelphia for engagement photos. The historic details, arches and Broad Street location photograph beautifully year-round and pair perfectly with nearby Center City locations.
Other Center City Philadelphia Engagement Session Locations Nearby
One of the best parts about planning an engagement session around PAFA is how many incredible Philadelphia photo locations are within walking distance or a short uber ride away. This area of Center City gives couples a really good mix of architecture, modern city views and quieter corners without needing to drive all over the city during the session.
A few nearby engagement session locations I love pairing together are:

A good engagement session should feel connected to who you are. For Sarah and Nate, that meant choosing locations that already meant something to them.
That is what made the session feel personal instead of just pretty!
